Texas Business and Commerce Code Chapter 114, effective January 1, 2022, requires commercial lodging establishments with 10 or more rooms to display human trafficking prevention signage and provide annual employee training.
Signage Requirements
Signs must be at least 11 inches by 17 inches with minimum 16-point font, posted separately in English, Spanish, and any other language spoken by 10% or more of the establishment’s employees. Signs must be displayed conspicuously where employees and guests can see them, such as near entrances, break rooms, or restrooms.
The signage must include:
Statement that employees receive annual trafficking prevention training
Assurance against retaliation for good faith reporting
Information on recognizing trafficking and a list of indicators
Telephone number designated by the Texas Attorney General for reporting
Contact info for reporting suspicious activity to the Department of Public Safety
Actual colors may differ from what appears on your screen due to variations in computer monitors. Request sample chips for accurate color representation.
Commercial lodging operators must ensure that employees with direct guest contact or access to guest rooms complete annual human trafficking prevention training approved by the Texas Attorney General. Training must cover identification, reporting obligations, and victim assistance. Training documentation must be kept and provided to the Attorney General’s Office within 72 hours upon request.
Penalties and Enforcement
Non-compliance with posting or training requirements may result in civil penalties, fines, administrative sanctions, and possible impacts on licensing enforced by the Texas Attorney General.
